My status

The lake and the mountains are the defining elements of the landscapes in the provinces of Como and Lecco. Just as interesting are the hills and plains further South, which mark the natural borders with the Provinces of Milan, Varese, and Bergamo.

Most of this region is made up of “green Brianza”: landscapes that wind from the farthest reaches of the hills all the way to the shores of the Adda, protected by the huge natural parks and the small Brianza lakes

« That branch of the lake of Como, which extends towards the south, is enclosed by two unbroken chains of mountains, which, as they advance and recede, diversify its shores with numerous bays and inlets. »

Alessandro Manzoni, born in Milan in 1785, spent his childhood and youth here in Caleotto.

The Como Lake, also known as Lario, with its depth of 410 meters, is one of the deepest of the  three Italian subalpine lakes, and one of the deepest in all of Europe. Its huge water mass influences the shores’ climate and bestows the Center Lake area, as well as the Bellagio promontory, with a climate similar to that of the Ligurian Riviera. In surrounding areas laurels and olive trees  grow, the gardens give shelter to palms and tropical plants, and nursery gardening prospers.

To its natural beauties, the Province of Como adds an original and fascinating artistic heritage, in which at least three currents of interest may be found. The first and most conspicuous one is made up of the villas of the Como Lake, unique both for the architectural and scenic value as well as the treasures they contain. The second, more hidden and cultured, is represented by the astounding concentration of Romanesque churches. The third, the most evocative and intriguing one, is made up of the numerous military fortifications from different eras, reminiscent of an adventurous past
